Rollercoaster was incorporated on 19 September 2006. In August 2006, the parents and the foundation ensemble members had a series of meetings, and worked out the future structure of the organisation, leading up to its registration as an Incorporated Association. During these meetings the name “Rollercoaster” was devised by the foundation ensemble members, describing the ‘ ups and downs ‘ they experienced living with a disability. In 2018 Rollercoaster began a new chapter with an independent management committee, but until then the management committee continued to be run by the parents of the founding members.

Acknowledgement of Country

As storytellers, we acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, the traditional owners of the land we gather on. We’re grateful to create on this land, knowing storytelling has been part of its history for thousands of years. It has held cultures and communities long before us, and we honour the strength, wisdom, and resilience of Elders who continue to care for it today. We recognise the impact of colonisation and the absence of a treaty, and we commit to amplifying the voices of First Nations peoples and working towards truth, justice, and reconciliation. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
